VIMS: Courses

The Academic activities of the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences were guided by an Academic Council upto 1981-82. Since 1982-83 a Governing Body is looking after it.


Courses Conducted

The Institute has had students in M.D (General Medicine and Pediatrics), M.S (General Surgery), M.S (ENT & Eye), M.S (Obs & Gyn.) placed by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. It also has students of D.C.H, DGO., D.O, D.L.O, D.A, D.Ortho, etc.

A good number of students are working for Diplomate of the National Board, New Delhi (D.N.B) in different disciplines. The National Board recognises this Institute for Post-graduate studies.

The studies for Ph.D. specially in Biochemistry and Genetics are being carried out under specific teachers.

Two-year courses for D.R.D. Tech (Diploma in Radiographic Technique) and D.M.L.T (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technique) of the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal started here from 1996 and 1997 respectively for which the curriculam have been throughly revised and regular theoretical and practical classes are being held. Presently 16 and 30 students respectively are on the rolls

4-year B.P.T (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) course of West Bengal University of Health Sciences is conducted here from 2006. The roll strength on 31st March 2016 was 31.

Bachelor of Critical Care Technology (BCCT) and Bachelor of Operation Theatre Technology (BOTT) courses of West Bengal University of Health Sciences were started here from September 2009. The rolls strength on 31st March 2016 were 30 and 38 respectively.
